Our Story of

Living Creatively

Our Mission

We strive to turn everyday moments into opportunities to use one’s full creative potential. Every person who crosses paths with a ZOKU product joins our community of passionate creators, makers, inventors, artists, artisans, cooks, students, workers, mom, dads, and overall creative people.

Our Story

The ZOKU story starts in 2002, seven years before we were founded. Ken Zorovich and Yos Kumthampinij opened their first design firm, Propeller. Their goal? Create an environment that enabled great product design where they could have fun with other talented designers.

Shifting Focus

During the economic downturn of 2008, they shifted their focus inward, wanting to create their own product line and brand. They were unsure of what exactly they wanted this to be, but they did know they wanted it to be in the one industry they’d never worked in—Housewares.

Met Business Partner Chris Green

Around this time, they met Chris Green, an experienced retail buyer in the housewares industry. They decided to join forces and in 2008, they walked the Chicago Housewares Show for inspiration.

A Pop is Born!

The team returned to the office thinking about what they could innovate. Through lots of ideation and a bit of serendipity, they created a countertop device that could freeze a popsicle in less than 8 minutes. The device was magical and took on a life of its own. Everyone who tried early prototypes was amazed—and the team realized they might be onto something.

ZOKU

They decided to invest in production samples and see where this could go. But the company needed a name. Yos and Ken picked ZOKU—a combination of their last names Zorovich and Kumthampinij.

Williams Sonoma

On July 9, 2009, ZOKU met with Williams Sonoma to present their game changing popsicle maker. The very next day, Williams Sonoma called with a large order for the 2009 Holiday season just a few months away. They planned on featuring ZOKU prominently in their catalog and in stores across the country. That season, it was one of the most successful items in their stores and ZOKU created a buzz in the industry.

Our Evolution from Housewares to Lifestyle

Ten years later, ZOKU is still generating buzz. Through thoughtful design-driven products that have expanded beyond Quick Pops, our product line now includes food storage solutions, drinkware, ice molds, and ice cream makers. ZOKU now expands outside the home and into the world of new possibilities—lifestyle.

Making a Difference

Creative ideas are infinite. The space we live in is finite. Therefore, we believe that protecting this small world we share is of utmost importance to sustaining creative lifestyles. This is why we have partnered with The Eden Project on our #TreesAreCool campaign where we plant one tree for every ZOKU stainless steel bottle sold.
